OUR PARTNERS

Statement on Community Partnership

As a research team embedded in an academic institution, we recognize the historical and contemporary harms that academic and medical institutions have caused in communities, especially marginalized communities. Every day, we are intentional and vigilant about building mutually-beneficial, trustworthy, and authentic relationships in the community in an effort to promote real, sustainable change. We actively resist efforts that exploit or tokenize community members and efforts that are characteristic of helicopter science or health equity tourism. Our team partners with individuals, organizations, and coalitions in and beyond the North Texas community. While some of these are community-academic research partnerships, much of our partnerships are characterized by providing technical assistance and capacity building in program planning and evaluation.
